DemographicsDetailed article
With comparison tables for all countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

The population of Algeria doubled 7 times through the 20th century, this parallel to the exodus of Christians and Jews in the 1960's.
As of the 2000's, the population growth for Algeria is moderate, now only 1.2% per year. The average Algerian woman gives birth to 1.8 children, which is below the critical level for stable population figures. The reason why there still is a population growth, are the waves of disproportionally large age groups born in the 1960's to 1980's. Hence, there are 4 births to every death case. Yet, with a median age as high as 27 years, population growth may come to a halt within the coming 10 years or so. Population projections for 2050 give a population of 59 million, but the abovementioned factors suggest that Algeria will stabilize at 40-45 million.
More information of demography is found in other Algeria articles about ethnic composition, first languages spoken and religious adherence. There is also information relevant to demographics under education and health.
