Ancient Egypt / Late Period /
30th Dynasty of Egypt

KINGS OF 30th DYNASTY
Years BCE
Nectanebo 1 380-362
Tachos 362-360
Nectanebo 2 360-343

Dynasty of Ancient Egypt 380-343 BCE, 37 years, consisting of 3 kings, belonging to the Late Period.
The main challenge for this dynasty was the same as for the previous: the Persians, who attacked three times, in 373, 350 and 343.
In 373, Egypt received aid from Sparta and Athens to defend its territory, but what saved the country was incompetence and internal strife in the Persian command line. The Persians had already defeated the Egyptian army but right before taking control over Egypt, they halted, allowing the Egyptians to regroup, and drive the Persians out of the country.
Tachos successfully invaded Persian territory in the Levant, aided by the Spartan king, Agesilaus. High taxation to fund the expedition caused anger in Egypt, and while away a coup made his nephew, Nectanebo 2, new king. Nectanebo was twice attacked by the Persians, the first, in 350 was repulsed. But the second, in 343, forced Nectanebo 2 to flee into Nubia, seeking refuge with the Cushite king, Akhraten. This brough this dynasty to an end, again making the Persians lords of Egypt. The 31st Dynasty only lists kings of Persia.
