Jilbab

Traditional Islamic garment, one of two female garment mentioned in the Koran (the other one is the khimar).
The jilbab is obviously a garment used before the advent of Islam, but it is mentioned explicity in the Koran as a piece of clothing in perfect correspondendance with Islam's regulations on modesty in one's appearance. The jilbab is a one-piece cloth that may show shoulders and legs, but not breasts or genitals.
Koran sura 33: Confederates
59 O prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters, and the women of the believers, to wrap their veils [jalābīb] close round them. It is better that way, they can be recognized but not annoyed. God is forgiving and merciful.
