Ancient Egypt / Late Period / 26th Dynasty /
Psametik 3
Other spellings: Psamtik, Psammetichus, Psammetich

King Psametik 3 of Ancient Egypt

King of Ancient Egypt 526-525 BCE, 2 years, the 6th and last ruler of the 26th Dynasty.
Psametik 3 is principally remembered for not having been able to stop a Persian invasion under the leadership of King Cambyses 2 in 525. The Egyptian army fought a bloody battle at Pelusium, but lost against the advancing army. The Persians besieged Memphis, and caught Psametik after its fall.
Psametik was jailed and at first treated well. As he was accused of conspiring against the Persian he was executed.
