Ancient Egypt / Ptolemaic dynasty /
Ptolemy 5 Epiphane

(210-181 BCE) King of Egypt 205-180 and part of the Ptolemaic dynasty. He was the grandson of Ptolemy 2.
As Ptolemy became king as child, Egypt was easily the victim of rulers in neighbouring countries. The Syrian king Antiochus 3 took eastern territories from Egypt, while Philip 5 of Macedonia took control over the western territories.
Egypt was also weakened by internal strife. His fights against rebels are narrated on the Rosetta Stone.
From the historical sources, we learn that he died a non-violent death despite his young age of 29.
