There is little statistical data for people groups in Qatar, and the figures presented here are rough estimates. Between sources, estimates vary dramatically.
Only 25% of the population of Qatar are Qataris, in the sense that they have citizenship. But the Qataris are mostly of Najdi (region in northwestern Saudi Arabia) ancestry.
The other large group of inhabitants in Qatar are of Persian descent, who are citizens of the country. The size of this population is not determined. LookLex sets it at 110,000, this is about in the middle between extremes; from 50,000 to 204,000.
The majority of the population are foreign workers coming to Qatar over the recent decades, many come from India and Pakistan, but also other Arab countries like Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Sudan, Palestine and Jordan. There are smaller communities from Western countries, the largest are from the United Kingdom.
