There is no statistical data for religion in Qatar, and the figures presented here are rough estimates. LookLex has adjusted information from other sources to better fit the ethnic composition of the country.
While more than 99% of Qatari citizens are Muslims, the estimate makes them represent 74% of the whole population. Sunnis are clearly the majority, including both Arab Qataris and close to all Arab immigrants.
Shi'is are the Persian Qataris, but there is information suggesting that there are more than just a thousand Baha'is among them. Some source also indirectly suggest that a substantial part of the Persians are Sunnis.
Sunni Qataris belong to the Wahhabi tradition, the orientation that has been central in forming modern Saudi Arabia, but the Qatari branch is less rigid and strict in many questions, while still remaining very conservative.
Other religions like Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism are practiced only by foreign workers. Qatar allows these religions to build churches and temples and to practice.
