Rehovot
Hebrew: rehovot

City in central Israel with 110,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate).
Rehovot's economy is largely based on industries producing plastics, pharmaceuticals, metal goods and processed products of citrus, like juices, oils and concentrates.
Rehovot is excellently located along highways connecting it to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Tel Aviv is 20 km north and Jerusalem is 55 km east.
Rehovot is the home of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The prestigious Weizmann Institute of Science is also located there.
Rehovot has almost no Palestinian inhabitants.
HISTORY
1890: Founded by Jews from Warsaw in Poland.
Early 20th century: Jewish control over the settlement is established, while still under Ottoman rule.
