Relizane, Algeria

Relizane

City in northwestern Algeria with 110,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate), along the seasonal river Wadi Minawhich.
It is the capital of Relizane province with 720,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate) and an area of 4,870 km².
Relizane serves as the centre and market of a rich agricultural area, specializing in cereals, grapes and cotton. There is also livestock raising, and wool is a central export item. Relizane is noted for its carpets, called Kalaa Oriental. Much of the modern employment deals with the Hassi R'Mel pipeline, in which Relizane is the feeder point for the coastal cities.
Relizane is well-connected with other urban centres of Algeria with rail and road. Mostaganem is 60 km northwest, Ech Cheliff, 90 km northeast, Tiaret, 95 km southeast and Mascara, 65 km southwest.
Relizane is a typical French town dominated by wide streets and parks, with orchards and gardens in the surrounding landscape.

History
In Roman times, this is the site of a the settlement, Mina.
