Biography
1950: Born in Doha, as son of Shaykh Khalifa bin Hamad ath-Thani.
1971: Graduates from Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Britain.
Joins the Qatari military forces with the rank of major.
1975: Appointed major-general and commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
1977 May: Appointed crown prince, whereupon he becomes minister of defence.
1991: Under control of Hamad, Qatari forces participates in the UN-lead attack on Iraq.
Hamad gets much control over the politics of Qatar, after that his father, Khalifa, leaves the daily governing to his sons.
1994: Hamad reconciles with Iraq.
1995 June: While his father is staying in Geneva, Switzerland, Hamad disposes his father in a bloodless coup.
