Tizi Ouzou

Town in northern Algeria with 85,000 inhabitants (2005 estimate), beneath the Belloua Mountain in the valley of the seasonal river of Tizi Ouzou.
It is the capital of Tizi Ouzou province with 1.25 million inhabitants (2005 estimate) and an area of 3,568 km².
The economy of Tizi Ouzou is based upon agriculture and manufacture. The main products of the agriculture are olives, figs and grapes. Basket products are the main manufacture product.
The Algerian Institute of Hotel and Tourist Technology is an important place of work.
Tizi Ouzou is mainly connected to other urban centres by road, and there is also a rail to Algiers, 95 km west. Bejaļa is 135 km east and Bouļra 80 km south.

HISTORY
Tizi Ouzou was established by the Ottomans, and was enlarged during the French period.
1990's: Much disturbance between the Berbers of Tizi Ouzou and the central authorities of Algiers.
