ASWAN:
Elephantine. Temples of Satet

Aswan, Egypt

Aswan, Egypt

Aswan, Egypt

The best reconstructed temples of Elephantine are all dedicated to Satet, there are at least 4 individual temples, in addition to the site where 7 temples have been built on top of each other. The history of the Satet temples begin aroun 2800 BCE, ending around 150 BCE. This temple is presented in a fascinating fashion, you can actually step down to the lower layers in which the remains of the earliest temples are most visible (bottom photo).
With one exception, the Satet temples are modest in size and design.
It is interesting to note the water systems of the temples, including what looks like a baptismal pool (second photo).
Satet was a local goddess to Elephantine, the dispenser of cool water.
