Sabratha's theatre has not been standing in this condition ever since it was built around 200 CE. It benefitted from one of the finest rebuilding projects ever, performed by Italian archaeologists in the 1920's. The temple had then been ruined since an earthquake in 365. Many stones used in the reconstruction are, however, not original. The facade behind the stage rises 20 metres, 3 tiers. The stage itself is 43 metres long and 9 metres wide.
