Sevilla:
Practicalities

HOTELS and ALTERNATIVES

Sevilla has expensive hotel rooms compared to the rest of Spain. And during summer or some of the popular festivals, prices are hiked up even more. Hotels close to the area with Moorish sights is among the most expensive. Cheaper options involves staying out of centre, and in some cases using public transport to get into town. Hotels in Macarena offer best prices, without forcing you out into the periphery.
Prices for central, good hotels start at around US$70 for a double slightly out of season, and US$90 in season.

RESTAURANTS and ALTERNATIVES

Sevilla is a fantastic place for anyone who loves to fill his or her stomach with tapas — which locals will claim were invented in Sevilla. But for standard restaurants, Sevilla is rather under-equipped. But if you look around for restaurants in the central quarters, there will always be an option not too far away.
For visitors to the Muslim sights, the best option is to cross the river to the Triana area. Here there are some fine restaurants, one or two with excellent view over the Guadalquivir River (the part running through Sevilla has specific local names) and the old centre.

SAFETY

Sevilla has a great problem with petty crime. There are a number of situations where you should hold on to your valuables: in crowds where small motorcycles can pass. The passenger will try to tear off your bag or camera. Drivers of cars should look out for situations when stopping for traffic lights. Then the technique is to break the window and grab whatever lies on the nearest seat.
