HOTELS AND ALTERNATIVES
Douz has a nice selection of hotels, covering all aspects of the scale, both in quality and price. However, some of the better places are reported to have staff with attitude problems.
RESTAURANTS AND ALTERNATIVES
There is a good range of basic restaurants in town, as well as some options of more style. As many of the better hotels don't excel in culinary qualities, your safest bet for a nice dinner is the Restaurant Ali Baba.
NIGHTLIFE
Not much. The hotels have bars, but there is not much happening.
CHANGE MONEY
One bank in town centre, but the better hotels will let you change money if you are resident.
TRANSPORT
Good connections to Kebili, which is the real transport hub out here. There are also direct connections to Tunis, Gabes, Tozeur and nearby El Faouar. Your best option is shared taxis, as the buses often are already full when passing through Douz.
Douz has several companies organizing different trips into the desert or around the oases. Prices are stiff, and there is generally little room for negotiating.
